The export volume of silicon metal in September increased by 27% YoY, with the annual export volume expected to exceed 700,000 mt [SMM Analysis]

According to customs data, China's silicon metal export volume in September 2024 was 65,200 mt, up 1% MoM and up 27% YoY. From January to September 2024, the cumulative export volume of silicon metal was 549,000 mt, up 28% YoY. China's silicon metal import volume in September 2024 was 3,500 mt, down 31% MoM. The cumulative import volume from January to September 2024 was 23,700 mt, up 448% YoY.

In terms of exports, China exported silicon metal to 53 countries or regions in September, with the top ten destinations accounting for 55,000 mt or 84.9% of the total. The top five destinations accounted for 37,000 mt or 56.2% of the total. The rankings were as follows: Japan (11,800 mt), the UAE (8,900 mt), Thailand (5,800 mt), India (5,300 mt), and Bahrain (4,800 mt). The export data for September basically met expectations, with overseas consumption steadily increasing. The annual export volume of silicon metal in 2024 is expected to be around 710,000-720,000 mt.
